There are three different types of ice cream vending solutions, and each has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Customers are already familiar with this experience, and the machine requires relatively low maintenance. However, the product offering is restricted to highly processed gas station dairy products. Also, remote management of real-time temperature, expirations, and inventory is lacking.

Fully Robotic

Robotic solutions offer a theatrical experience for the customer, who selects their flavor and toppings and watches a robot assemble their soft serve and present it through a window. Robotic solutions are less common because the technology is still developing. Because of all the moving parts, they require the most maintenance and have the most potential for malfunction. Additionally, the operator is limited to the predetermined flavor and topping list from the manufacturer. Smart Freezer

A smart freezer allows the customer to explore the products inside after unlocking it with a payment method. Each item is tagged with an RFID sticker, so customers are automatically charged for the items they remove.

Individual product tagging also empowers the operator with full visibility into inventory and expiration dates from a remote dashboard, allowing them to maintain product quality and avoid freezer burn.
